Making S&P Graspable: Workshop on Tangible Privacy and Security Interfaces
SOUPS 2026 Workshop | August 24, 2026 | Hannover, Germany
Tangible privacy and security interfaces (TaPSIs) are physical user interfaces that support users in managing, protecting, and understanding security and privacy. Examples include webcam covers, physical authentication devices, authentication mechanisms that apply physical manipulation, physical games, tactile warning interfaces, and IoT privacy mechanisms. The diversity of TaPSIs - in addressed security and privacy domains, form factors, and interaction modalities - has led to a strongly fragmented research landscape. hindering knowledge exchange and overall advancement in the field. Therefore, the objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers and developers from diverse domains interested in TaPSIs to foster connections, learn from one another, and advance future research.
Call for Submissions
We welcome submissions that describe a vision for a tangible privacy and security interface (TaPSI) or present artifacts or empirical contributions relevant to this topic. We specifically encourage authors to discuss the future of TaPSI in their submissions.
Authors can choose between submitting a position paper (2-4 pages), a demo (2-4 pages), or a video (2-3 minutes with a 1-2 page written abstract). All submissions need to be anonymized and use the SOUPS template for Word or Latex. Submissions will receive two reviews each, rating their fit to the workshop topic. We ask authors to follow the ArXiv best practices for generating HTML papers to make the workshop proceedings more accessible. Authors of accepted submissions will get the opportunity to revise them before they are published as part of the workshop proceedings on ArXiv.
Authors can choose to present their submission as a slideshow (max. 5 slides, shown on their own device) or as a live demo during the workshop. Please note that, instead of a traditional talk format where presenters sequentially describe their work to all attendees, presentations in this workshop will occur simultaneously, mimicking poster or demo sessions at other venues.
