About
Before becoming a research fellow at LMU, Gilbert studied Design at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), Computer Science at the University of Munich (LMU), and Interaction Design at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHDK). He designed and investigated several interactive public displays such as large poster displays, a long banner display, and together with Fraunhofer an interactive advertising column. His research explores how these novel interactive shapes can actively attract passerby attention, communicate that they are interactive, and influence user positions and audience constellations.Projects
Communicating Interactivity To overcome the challenge that passers-by often do not expect public displays to be interactive and thus pay no attention to them, a solution called unaware initial interaction surprises passers-by and communicates interactivity by giving visual feedback, e.g. in the form of mirror images, to their initial movements. read more |

Actively Guiding Users To overcome the challenge that larger groups of passers-by often crowd together in front of wide public displays or do not take optimal positions for interaction, a solution called visual audience moderation subtly and actively guides users by dynamic and interactive visual cues on the screen in order to better distribute them. read more |

Interactive Display Shapes I designed several interactive counterparts to classical display shapes of out-of-home advertising, such as interactive advertising columns, long banner displays and life-size screens, and investigated them with real passers-by in field studies. read more |
