Trends in Information Visualization Media Informatics Advanced Seminar, Winter Term 2008/2009 (bib) |
This report provides an overview of current applications and research trends in the field of information visualization. The content ranges from classical information visualization aspects such as network visualization, multivariate data representation and multiple coordinated views to topics beyond the traditional scope such as aesthetics, collaboration or casual aspects in information visualization. During the winter term 2008/2009, students from the Computer Science Department at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich did research on specific topics related to information visualization and analyzed various publications. This report comprises a selection of papers that resulted from the seminar. Each chapter presents a survey of current trends, developments, and research with regard to a specific topic. Although the students background is computer science, their work includes interdisciplinary viewpoints such as theories, methods, and findings from arts, design and cognitive psychology sciences. Therefore, the report is targeted at anyone who is interested in the various facets of information visualization. In addition to this report, there are slides from the students talks available at http://www.medien.ifi.lmu.de/lehre/ws0809/hs/. |
