Task

This thesis is aimed at exploring auditory cues to change the haptic perception of users. For instance, we want to explore how sounds can trick users' brains into perceiving an object to be softer during exploration. Your task is to develop and implement a mixed reality application (visuals&sound) and conducting a user study where we explore different sounds and try to measure their influence on the haptic perception of users.

The thesis includes:

  • Literature review on the psychological phenomenon of sensory illusions and their use in HCI.
  • Find and synthesize suitable sounds.
  • Develop and implement the mixed reality prototype
  • Conduct a user-study
  • Evaluate and analyze results

Your profile:

  • Prior experience in Unity3D development and/or VR/AR development experience are helpful.
This thesis is supervised by Yannick Weiss. Feel free to contact me (in German or English) if you are interested or have any questions.
