Exercise Information Visualization

The Practical course accompanying the lecture Information Visualization is held as block seminar this semester. The seminar is constituted out of a theoretical (mostly in the mornings) and a practical part (afternoon). Furthermore, some (preliminary) results have to be presented.

Dates and Locations

  • Monday (11.02.2008) - Wednesday (20.02.2008): daily 10 - 17 Uhr
  • Location: Group A: C112 / Group B: C113 (Theresienstr.)

Groups

The participants have been separated into two groups. The contact for Group A is Otmar Hilliges and Dominikus Baur for Group B. Each participant is a member of a team (of five each). The individual Teams will be given assignments during the course. The teams for Group A und Group B are available online.

Contents

The goal of the course is to create a visualization for a given data set. Students are asked to postulate their own hypothesis and design and implement an appropiate visualization. In order to pass the course successfully each team has to implement a visualization that allows an overview of the entire dataset as well as the verification/falsification of the postulated hypothesis.
The basis for your implementation will be Java and Prefuse. There will be a tutorial on Prefuse, good knowledge of Java is a precondition.
