You will lose your access to this document when the database containing this paper is decommissioned or compromised. This paper highlights the relevance of features from analogue media in an increasingly fragile digital world. Digital content can be altered to change its meaning or be deleted altogether. In analogue media, this is much more difficult without anyone noticing. Just imagine the impact if YouTube was decommissioned and all its content was rendered unavailable. In this paper, we outline concrete commercial examples and insight from the research of issues with distribution, storage, and manipulation of digital media and its impact on users. We conclude with strategies to preserve content, access, and artistic freedom in an increasingly digital future.
