Start, processing period, registration and submission
The time of the start of a bachelor thesis can be freely determined in consultation between the student and the supervisor and can also be during the semester break. The bachelor thesis should be created within a period of 10-20 weeks from a start date. However, the workload should not exceed 10 weeks full-time.
The Bachelor thesis must be registered at the beginning of the work so that the start and end dates are fixed. Stating this takes place over the Uni2Work System by creating a so-called workflow. All scientific staff are allowed ro create such workflows, therefore it is best to create the workflow together with the supervisor.
The date of the latest possible submission (15 weeks after registration date) is determined internally within the system. The thesis must be uploaded in the system by this date. Additional materials (e.g. source code, questionnaires, data) can and shall be uploaded at delivery time as well; for large files it is recommended to provide a link to a ZIP archive, preferably at LRZ Sync&Share. The work must be printed and submitted to the secretariat at Frauenlobstr. 7a on time, either in person or by post (the date of the postmark counts).
Topics
Important information on finding a topic is summarized on the thesis topics page.
Requirements for the Written Elaboration
A bachelor thesis must meet certain requirements and guidelines. With a few exceptions, a bachelor's thesis should begin with a literature study within its topic after the introductory chapter. This is intended to shed light on existing scientific work on this topic ("Related Work"). Furthermore, the thesis should address the theoretical background of the topic and show how information can be systematically obtained in the context of such a problem. A user study is often advisable in order to put the practical elaboration on a more theoretical basis.
Under no circumstances may a bachelor thesis be exclusively the written documentation of a practical programming task or a product that has been created.

Conducting User Studies
Many final theses involve conducting a user study to answer the research question. Resources for user studies can be found here:- Declaration of consent for user studies

Evaluation of the Work
As with project and diploma theses, an evaluation scheme is used in the bachelor thesis. The subsequent overall grade is based on this scheme. However, it is not mandatory for the supervisor to use the scheme.
Defense Event
In addition to the preparation of the thesis, a final disputation about the thesis must be given. This event should only be given after the thesis has been submitted and still counts as an examination, which is why you have to be enrolled at the time of the event. Students are encouraged to make an appointment for the event as early as possible.
Because of the long waiting list for event dates in the LFE Media Informatics disputation seminar and the deadlines for enrollment, it is unfortunately not possible to give all Bachelor students who are currently doing their Bachelor thesis with us an appointment for their final event that shortly follows the deadline follows. Unfortunately, this means for students who are currently doing their bachelor thesis at LFE Medieninformatik that the certificate cannot be issued in good time before the matriculation date for the master's degree. In order to keep the resulting difficulties as low as possible for all Bachelor students, the following procedure is proposed:
-
Future Master's students: For students who want to do their Master's at LMU, it is recommended to stay enrolled as a Bachelor for another semester, but to take Master's courses in the coming semester, i.e. to switch to the Master by one semester move. This means that overall not a semester would be lost for the Bachelor + Master. However, the prerequisite for this is a timely (successful) application.
Attention: In order not to be de-registered, it is necessary to transfer the necessary amounts for the continuation of the bachelor's degree in good time. - Wechsler: For those students who do not want to do their Masters at LMU, we try to set up additional dates during the semester break. We ask for your understanding that we have to limit this special regulation to justified cases. These dates are given preferentially to students who do NOT apply to us for a master's degree. To apply for one of these dates, please contact the supervisor of your bachelor thesis, stating your reasons.
