General information

The master study programme can be started in the summer or in the winter semester. It takes 4 semesters (max. 7 semesters) which are devided into 3 semesters where the students visit taught courses and one last semester, during which students are required to write a Master's thesis to successfully obtain the degree Master of Science (short: M.Sc.).

There is no dictated order in which the electable courses need to be visited in order to obtain the overall 120 ECTS. Building on the Bachelor degree, students can deepen their knowledge with or without an applied subject. A requirement for a Master degree with an applied subject is to have a Bachelor with one of the specific minors. Thus, the LMU currently offers 4 Master programmes in the area of Media Informatics. Since the winter semester 2012/13 the sutdy programme Human-Computer-Interaction is offered, building on the Bachelor degree Media Informatics with an applied subject Human-Computer-Interaction.
From the winter semester 2022/23 onwards there will only be 2 Master programmes: Media Informatics (incl. applied subjects) and Human-Computer-Interaction. The requirement to have a Bachelor with the same minor will be dropped then.
