The Ambient Display - Integrating Media Architecture Into Existing Surrounding and Structures

We present Ambient Display, a study prototype, to explore the presentation of real-time data in the public domain using different display technologies, and we investigate the question of how information should be integrated in our future cities. We report on two cases exposing this setup in the wild to different contexts. Using Ambient Display, we represent similar data-sets in three conditions: (1) ambient low resolution representations, (2) high-resolution information via projections, (3) a combination of both projected and ambient content, which we refer to as hybrid. By providing the lessons we have learned, we aim to propose a hybrid media architecture that combines low- resolution media content with easy-to-grasp metaphors and pockets of explicit information.
