Description DMD
The Deutsches Museum (DM) München with its five branches is one of the largest and most visited technology museums in the world. Its mission is to communicate historical and current technologies as well as fundamental scientific research and findings. Natural science and its impact on the further development of mankind can be experienced and invites visitors to emulate it. As a research museum in the Leibniz Association, the DM is a central authority in German historical technology and science research.
The Deutsches Museum Digital (DMD) has existed for over ten years within the research department and is dedicated to the central aspects of digitization with a user focus. Its core task is the creation, aggregation, management and communication of digital assets relating to the object collections, the library and the archive. The central product of the DMD is the online collection portal. In dealing with the metadata and media files - including photographs, scans, 3D recordings, audio and video - which now number in the tens of millions, the DMD also tests and establishes innovative ways of valorization for potential users.
Topics
Topics There are various fields of activity in this environment. One important aspect is the enrichment and processing of existing raw data, in which methods and processes of language processing and the semantic web can be applied. The data can be made accessible both qualitatively in the form of virtual exhibitions or other curatorial approaches and quantitatively in the form of statistical evaluations and data mining. The DMD has also already tested the interaction of the real and digital worlds with VR/AR/MR in various contexts. Last but not least, current AI developments promise new ways and potential in the creative handling of knowledge transfer and audience engagement. The DMD's previous offers, projects and test positions can be viewed on the website https://digital.deutsches-museum.de. In addition, the DMD is open to innovative and unconventional approaches, even off the beaten track. The target audience is primarily digital users, both external visitors and internal employees. Interactions with museum visitors on site can also be realized to a limited extent.
