Status in progress
Advisor Michael Braun
Professor Prof. Dr. Florian Alt

Task

Description

Automotive user interfaces of the future will most likely be able to detect and express emotions to provide an optimal driving experience to every driver. Today we explore the possibilities of such affective interfaces through user-centered research so we can experience them tomorrow.
The goal of this master thesis is to come up with and experimentally compare different designs of emotional automotive interfaces in a driving simulator setting. User tests will be conducted in cooperations with BMW.

Tasks

  • Review of related work on affective user interfaces
  • Paper prototyping of ideas
  • Iterative work on prototypes and study design
  • Design and implementation of an affective user interfac
  • Conducting a user study in the driving simulator at BMW
  • Statistical analysis of the collected data

Requirements

  • Independent scientific work and creative problem solving
  • Interest in automotive user interfaces
  • Openness towards working with humans in user studies and experiments
  • Good knowledge of Unity 3D
  • Alternatively, a high level of proficiency in C# / Java / JavaScript and the willingness to learn
