Abstract

To avoid camera shake while moving the camera auxiliary tools stabilizing the camera are used in film production. Among these auxiliary tools are sliding systems leading a carriage, so called camera sliders. The camera is mounted on the carriage which is then moved during the recording, thus resulting in tracking shots with less shaking.

Tracking shots where the carriage is moved manually are hard to reproduce and the acceleration of the carriage can only be controlled inaccurately.

To facilitate reproducibility and accurate control of tracking shots such sliding systems can be driven by motors. Motor driven sliding systems exist in forms of closed proprietary systems and do-it-yourself setups. Proprietary system do not offer open interfaces for the implementation of novel user interfaces in order to test new forms of interaction. Do-it-yourself setups mainly make use of classic user interface components such as buttons, sliders, potentiometers etc.

Taking in the user-centered perspective you will develop a motorized camera slider with motion control addressing the requirements of professional use allowing to attach different user interfaces.
