News

  • 21/04/16: The results of the retry exam are available in UniWorX. To register for the test insight, please visit the link we emailed you. If you did not receive such a link, please let us know.
  • 23/03/16: The retry exam takes place on April 8 2016 in Room B101. More details below.
  • 23/03/16: All results of the first exam are now available in UniWorX. You may view your exam papers on March 29. Registration is required. You should have received an invitation via email, if not, please contact us.
  • 18/03/16: The results of the major subject exam are available in UniWorX. The minor subject results will be available next week. The retry-exam is likely to take place during the second or third week of April. The exact date will be announced here as soon as possible. Please do not ask for the specific date via email.
  • 01/02/16: On December 23rd, only the tutorial at 2 pm will take place. Please consider visiting the other tutorials on Monday instead.

Contents

The lecture discusses multimedia services which are realized through data networks (online). Knowledge about data networks is introduced as far as necessary for understanding the lecture, for details students are referred to other lectures on computer networks. The lecture is structured into the following areas:

  • Web technologies for interactive multimedia: Server-side interactivity with PHP, NodeJS and Java, asynchronous interactivity in the Web (Ajax), client-side JavaScript frameworks (JQuery, AngularJS, Polymer), mashups of Web sites
  • Content-oriented base technologies: Further technologies required for storing, transferring and processing of multimedia data in the net, including security issues, metadata standards and rights managament
  • Multimedia distribution services: e.g. WebRadio, WebTV, electronic books and corresponding base technologies
  • Multimedia services for individual communication: e.g. Video and multimedia conferencing technology

The lecture course is suitable for:

  • Students of Media Informatics (Master) or Informatics (Master) being well grounded in topics of Media Informatics, or Human-Computer-interaction (Master)
  • Students of Media Informatics as a minor field of study (60 ECTS) - compulsory course in the fifth term;
