- Virtual Reality in Everyday Environments
- Fully Immersive Head Mounted Displays
- Co-Located Mixed Presence Interaction
My research interest lies in the use of Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs) in everyday social contexts. The introduction of HMDs into new environments such as private households, trade fairs or public places poses challenges that were not present in the classical laboratory context. In particular, my work relates to the influence of the social context in the everyday use of HMDs. In contrast to the unique laboratory environments that have dominated the use of HMDs in recent decades, HMD users in everyday situations are always social actors. As such, even if they are visually and mentally not present in the real world but in a virtual one, they still interact with the people around them. In my work, I structure the problem field, work out proposals for solutions and create prototypes that address the recognized problems in daily use. Also, I work on methods to evaluate these systems, which meet the demands of the new usage contexts.
