Task
As data becomes increasingly complex and multidimensional, conveying uncertainty effectively has become a critical challenge in the field of data visualization, especially in immersive and 3D environments. Immersive Analytics, which leverages spatial interfaces and virtual environments, presents new opportunities and challenges for representing uncertainty in ways that are both intuitive and informative. This thesis will explore the adaptation and evaluation of various visualization techniques for conveying uncertainty within immersive 3D environments. The goal of this thesis is to investigate and evaluate visualization techniques that utilize surface and rendering properties to represent uncertainty in 3D space. This includes:
Deliverables
- Conducting a literature review to identify existing techniques and theoretical foundations.
- Selecting and implementing a range of visualization styles in a virtual environment.
- Designing and running a user study to assess these techniques.
- Analyzing and interpreting the results to provide recommendations and insights.
Deliverables
- A written thesis
- A working prototype demonstrating the implemented visualization techniques
- Study materials and anonymized data used for the user study
