Das Seminar soll eine breite Orientierung bieten und eine kritische Haltung sowohl der eigenen Vorgehensweise als auch publizierter Ergebnisse gegenüber vermitteln.
Experiment or Field Study Design? Correlation vs. causality? parametric vs. non-parametric methods? Scientific research requires many crucial decisions in terms of specification of hypotheses, choice of study design, choice and application of appropriate statistical methods, and correct interpretation. Every single step and choice can potentially have significant effect on the study results. The Seminar covers the following topics: -Philosophy of science -Specification of hypotheses and planning on how to test them -Designing experiments and studies -Choice and usage of specific methods -Statistics and data analysis -Paper analysis (reviews) -dirty tricks: manipulating results and how to spot manipulations.Target audience
