Start, processing period and registration
The 4th semester is intended for the preparation of the master's thesis. The master's thesis should be written within a period of 19 weeks from this start date.
The Master's thesis must be registered at the beginning of the work so that the start and end dates are fixed. Stating this takes place over the Uni2Work System by creating a so-called workflow. All scientific staff are allowed ro create such workflows, therefore it is best to create the workflow together with the supervisor.
The date of the latest possible submission (19 weeks after registration date) is determined internally within the system. The thesis must be uploaded in the system by this date. Additional materials (e.g. source code, questionnaires, data) can and shall be uploaded at delivery time as well; for large files it is recommended to provide a link to a ZIP archive, preferably at LRZ Sync&Share. The work must be printed and submitted to the secretariat at Frauenlobstr. 7a on time, either in person or by post (the date of the postmark counts).
Topics
Information on finding a suitable topic can be found here.
Requirements for the written elaboration
A Master's thesis must meet certain requirements and guidelines.
With a few exceptions, a master's thesis within its topic should begin with a literature study that sheds light on the scientific work on this topic that has existed to date ("Related Work"). Furthermore, the work should address the theoretical background of the topic and show how information can be systematically obtained within the framework of such a problem. A user study is often advisable in order to put the practical elaboration on a more theoretical basis.
The work is framed by the introduction and conclusion ("Conclusions" and "Future Work").
Under no circumstances may a master's thesis be solely the written documentation of a practical programming task or a product that has been created. The scientific standard of a master's thesis is higher than that of a bachelor's thesis.

Conducting User Studies
Many final theses involve conducting a user study to answer the research question. Resources for user studies can be found here:- Declaration of consent for user studies

Evaluation of the work
As with bachelor theses, an evaluation scheme is used for the master thesis. The subsequent overall grade is based on this scheme. However, it is not mandatory for the supervisor to use the scheme.
Disputation
In addition to the preparation of the thesis, a final lecture (Disputation seminar Master) must be given about the thesis. This lecture should only be given after the thesis has been submitted and counts as an examination, which is why you have to be enrolled at the time of the lecture. Students are encouraged to make an appointment for the lecture as early as possible.
